The King's Warden, Danjong's island

2025's Korean period film <The King's Warden> deals with Cheongnyeongpo, the final place of exile of King Danjong (r. 1452–1455). The 'island that isn't an island' in Yeongwol is the center of the work.

Cheongnyeongpo's pine forest + river + cliff make half of the work's mise-en-scène. The other half is shot around Andong's hanok village + Yeongwol's Korean-peninsula topography.

To recreate Yeongwol in 1455, the period-art team partnered with Yeongwol-gun and the Cultural Heritage Administration. Concentrated shooting in early November when Cheongnyeongpo turned to autumn.

Cheongnyeongpo pine grove

Cheongnyeongpo is a UNESCO natural-heritage zone. Forest access required separate permits — four days of survey + five days of shoot.
