Teach You a Lesson: The Bureau That Fights to Save Broken Schools

Teach You a Lesson (Korean title Chamgyoyuk) is a Netflix Original action-crime series released on June 5, 2026, running for a total of 10 episodes. The story follows the cathartic exploits of the Education Authority Protection Bureau — a fictional government agency created "to protect collapsing schools from students, teachers, and parents who cross the line." It is based on the hugely popular Naver webtoon (known in English as Get Schooled), written by Chae Yong-taek and illustrated by Han Ga-ram. By tackling timely subjects like the erosion of teachers' authority and school violence head-on, the drama became a major talking point the moment it dropped.

At the center is Kim Mu-yeol as Na Hwa-jin, an inspector for the Bureau. With overwhelming charisma, he roots out the violence and corruption festering inside schools, and many fans already call this a career-defining role for the actor. He is joined by Lee Sung-min as Minister of Education Choi Kang-seok, Jin Ki-joo as fellow inspector Im Han-rim, and Pyo Ji-hoon (P.O of Block B) as Bureau official Bong Geun-dae. Bong is an original character created for the drama — he doesn't appear in the webtoon — and his dynamic with Im Han-rim adds a fresh layer the source material never had.

The series is directed by Hong Jong-chan, acclaimed for the Netflix hit Juvenile Justice, with a screenplay by Lee Nam-gyu (Daily Dose of Sunshine), striking a balance between social commentary and genre thrills. Its signature structure sees each episode unfold at a different school before the second half builds toward a sweeping conspiracy involving a school foundation and the powerful elite.

Behind the Scenes

The heart of the Teach You a Lesson filming locations is Daegu, South Korea's fourth-largest city. Because the premise moves to a new school each episode, the production drew on a string of real schools across Daegu and nearby regions. It's worth noting that director Hong Jong-chan also shot his previous hit Juvenile Justice around Daegu, and that connection appears to have carried over into the choice of Daegu drama locations here.

Here's the episode-by-episode breakdown. "Daehan High School," the main stage of Episode 1, was filmed at Daegu Sangwon High School in Dalseo-gu. The Episode 2 vocational school "Guun Hi-Tech High School" was shot at Jeonju Technical High School. The all-girls "Soyeon Girls' High School" in Episode 3 used Wonhwa Girls' High School in Dalseo-gu, while the elite "Chukmyeong Foreign Language High School" of Episode 4 was filmed at Keimyung University's Daemyeong Campus in Nam-gu — its classic red-brick architecture perfectly conveying the air of a prestigious academy. Episode 5's "Hyeonjung Elementary School" was shot at Daegu Ihyeon Elementary School in Seo-gu.

Scenes set beyond the schools matter, too. Assemblyman Ryu Gwang-pil's book-launch ceremony was filmed at the Suwon Convention Center in Gyeonggi-do, and the Episode 1 cafeteria scene was shot at Daejin Design High School — proof that the production reached well past classrooms to capture the show's larger scale.

Travel Guide to Filming Locations

A Teach You a Lesson location tour is best planned around Daegu, since every in-city site is reachable by the Daegu Metro.

Recommended half-day course (Daegu): Keimyung Univ. Daemyeong Campus (Nam-gu) → Daegu Sangwon High & Wonhwa Girls' High (Dalseo-gu) → Daegu Ihyeon Elementary (Seo-gu)

  • Keimyung Univ. Daemyeong Campus: About 8 min on foot from Namsan Station (Line 3). The campus is relatively open to visitors, making it the easiest and most welcoming stop.
  • Daegu Sangwon High School: About 12 min from Sangin Station (Line 1) — the main school that opens Episode 1.
  • Wonhwa Girls' High School: About 15 min from Gamsam Station (Line 2) or Seongdangmot Station (Line 1).
  • Daegu Ihyeon Elementary School: About 12 min from Seodaegu Hospital Station (Line 3).

Jeonju Technical High School and the Suwon Convention Center sit far from Daegu and require separate itineraries. Jeonju is about 15 minutes by car from Jeonju Station and pairs nicely with a trip to the famous Hanok Village, while the Suwon Convention Center is about a 10-minute walk from Gwanggyojungang (Ajou Univ.) Station on the Shinbundang Line, easy to fold into a Seoul-area day.

Important etiquette: Most of these locations are active, operating schools. View the exteriors only, and avoid visiting during class hours or the morning and afternoon commute. Do not enter school grounds without permission, and never photograph students. The most pleasant times to visit are spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when walking the neighborhoods is comfortable.

Fan Pilgrimage

In the days after Netflix's Teach You a Lesson premiered, social media filled with Daegu residents posting "my neighborhood school is on TV!" Fans actively shared threads tracking down each episode's school under hashtags like #Chamgyoyuk and #참교육촬영지, and content matching the drama's fictional school names to their real-world counterparts quickly took off.

The most relaxed spot for a photo is Keimyung University's Daemyeong Campus. The red-brick building featured in Episode 4 is a favorite photo point for recreating scenes from the show. For the elementary, middle, and high schools, though, remember these are working campuses — keep your shots to the front gate or outer walls, and stay mindful not to disturb students or staff. That respect is the cornerstone of any responsible pilgrimage.

Nearby Food and Attractions

There's plenty to enjoy alongside a Daegu location tour:

  • Anjirang Gopchang Alley: The signature food street of Nam-gu, near Keimyung University, famous for grilled beef intestines. It's close to Anjirang Station (Line 3).
  • Duryu Park & E-World (83 Tower): Landmark attractions near the Dalseo-gu locations and one of the city's best night-view spots.
  • Dongseongno & Kim Kwang-seok Memorial Road: Daegu's lively downtown shopping district and a nostalgic mural-lined alley — great for shopping and café-hopping.
  • Seomun Market Night Market: Daegu's iconic traditional market, packed with a huge variety of street food.
  • Accommodation: Hotels cluster around the downtown Dongseongno and Banwoldang areas, offering excellent transit access. Use the Agoda link below to search for stays in Daegu.
