Itaewon Class, the myth of a back alley
JTBC's 2020 <Itaewon Class>, starring Park Seo-jun, set a self-record peak rating of 16.5%. The little pub DanBam takes seven years to face down a corporate giant.
Itaewon's Gyeongnidan-gil and Usadan-ro narrow alleys are DanBam's stage. The DanBam exterior was never an operating bar — it was built as a façade-only set in an entrance alley off Gyeongnidan-gil.
The opening cut's yellow DanBam sign is a metaphor — 'a new star of Itaewon.' The first seventy seconds of Episode 1 set the tone for the whole show.
